  • THE UNITED STATES CHAPTER OF THE COMMITTEE OF PAN AMERICAN JUDGES ON SOCIAL JUSTICE (“US-COPAJU”)

    Disclaimer Policy (October 24, 2024)

    US-COPAJU, organized exclusively for charitable, educational, and scientific purposes to improve the law, the legal system, and the administration of justice, aims to maintain a high standard of ethical conduct and professional integrity in all engagements, including social media interactions, thereby fostering trust in the judiciary and furthering US-COPAJU purposes. In accordance with these goals, US-COPAJU has enacted the following policies:

    Policy I.  Constitution and Laws and Codes of Judicial Conduct

    A.  United States judges are subject to restrictions arising from both the United States Constitution, and the laws and Codes of Judicial Conduct.

    B.  Members of the US-COPAJU participate in their personal capacities.  Positions of US-COPAJU do not reflect the official position of any participating judge or that of their Court or the entity on which they serve.

    C.  US-COPAJU members’ participation in dialogues related to issues and concerns driven by social justice is personal and not official in nature.

    Policy II.  Commitment to Judicial Impartiality

    A. US-COPAJU strictly adheres to the principle of judicial impartiality. All educational materials, programs, and activities are to enhance the judiciary’s ability to perform its duties without bias or favoritism.

    B. As a nonpartisan organization, US-COPAJU does not align with any political party, ideology, or movement and its initiatives and programs are solely to support the fair and impartial administration of justice and to further the purposes of US-COPAJU as outlined in its Articles of Incorporation.

    C. Any public statements or publications by members of US-COPAJU are their own and are not attributable to US-COPAJU.

    Policy III.  Separation of Religion and State

    A.  US-COPAJU follows the Constitutional principle of the separation of religion and state.

    B.  US-COPAJU respects individual’s personal beliefs, backgrounds, and experiences and provides a neutral platform that fosters an academic and scholarly environment for those of all religions and none.

    Policy IV.  Conflicts of Interest

    A. US-COPAJU is committed to maintaining transparency and integrity in all its operations and has established policies to identify any potential conflicts of interest to ensure that activities and decisions made are in the best interest of judicial impartiality.

    Policy V.  Social Media

    A.  The information posted on US-COPAJU's social media platforms include links to information created and maintained by other organizations. US-COPAJU provides these links solely for informational and convenience purposes. When individuals select a link to an outside website or social media account, they are subject to the privacy, copyright, security, and information quality policies of that external site.  US-COPAJU does not control or guarantee the accuracy, legality, relevance, timeliness, or completeness of information contained on a linked site; does not endorse linked sites, the views they express, or the products or services they offer; cannot authorize the use of copyrighted materials contained in linked sites; and is not responsible for transmissions users receive from linked sites.

    B.  The information appearing on US-COPAJU's social media platforms is for general informational purposes only and is not legal advice.

    C.  US-COPAJU does not endorse the views of those who friend or follow the organization on social media.
